YouTube announced on Tuesday that it is expanding its auto-dubbing feature, which enables creators to generate translated audio tracks for their videos, to hundreds of thousands more channels.
Initially introduced at VidCon last year, the AI-driven auto-dubbing tool was previously limited to a small group of creators. This feature aims to make YouTube content more accessible and understandable to global audiences.
Currently, the tool is available to creators focusing on informational content, such as cooking tutorials or sewing guides, with plans to roll it out to other types of videos soon. To use the feature, creators simply upload their videos, and YouTube automatically detects the language and generates dubbed versions in multiple languages, including English, French, German, Hindi, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese, and Spanish.
The auto-dubbing system leverages Google’s Gemini technology to mimic human speech. However, YouTube acknowledges that the feature is still in development and may have occasional inaccuracies. “We’re working hard to improve its accuracy, but there might be instances where translations or dubbed voices don’t perfectly match the original,” the company noted in a blog post.
YouTube also highlighted an upcoming feature called “Expressive Speech,” which will further enhance dubbing by capturing the creator’s tone, emotions, and environmental context.
